Why OnApproach?

Studies suggest that within an organization the cost of having executives and managers prepare data for analysis is over $700,000 annually. As an alternative, the development of an enterprise data warehouse (EDW) can be the foundation for business intelligence within an organization.

OnApproach is a “catalyst for improvement.” We focus on measurable results through proven methodologies in an effort to deliver high-impact, high-visibility change that aligns technology initiatives with business urgency.

OnApproach offers four compelling reasons that differentiate it from other practitioners in developing BI projects:

  1. Alignment: Our goals are aligned with yours. We measure our success by the delivery of a BI project that meets or exceeds the expectations of the business user(s). By understanding the opportunities available to our clients, we gain trust and credibility in the market place
  2. Understanding : We do our homework by seeking to understand your business and technical issues as a first step. The successful completion of any BI initiative depends on a solid requirements gathering process. From our experience, effective requirement gathering is a balanced combination of art and science that includes a “deep dive’ into the data to capture the essence of what is required to deliver a project of the highest quality.
  3. Skill: Our consultants reflect our hiring philosophy. We find people with a passion for data who have strong interpersonal, problem solving, and team player skills.
  4. Approach: We employ the BI Readiness Assessment and the BI Rapid Deployment Methodology™ (a “best-of” process derived from Six Sigma and Stage-Gate). This methodology uses a combination of phases, decision gates, key activities ,and artifacts to insure that the project stays on track to deliver the desired business outcomes.

OnApproach subscribes to the philosophies and methods pioneered by Ralph Kimball. Kimball advocates building the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW ) from smaller data mart projects that establish enterprise standards and definitions that can be enforced across consecutive projects. For example, the definition of “revenue “ or “invoice” should be established early in an enterprise data dictionary so the terminology is consistent throughout the organization .

A major benefit to this approach is that delivering impactful “wins” in short time frames creates a culture of support within the organization. Such support can lead to approval and development of more sophisticated BI applications such as dashboards and score carding. The incremental delivery of data marts allows for a manageable progression toward an EDW allowing data quality issues and enterprise standards to be developed over time.

Our experience, expertise and relationships with the ERP platform leaders like Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, Lawson, and Microsoft along with our knowledge of reporting, analytical and planning tools like (but not limited to) Information Builders, SAS, Cognos, Business Objects, and Microsoft puts OnApproach in a unique position to help our clients derive a positive return on existing or new BI investments.
