As a Director of Information of Technology for over 20 years, Jeff was often frustrated by the need to allocate resources to support and maintain new applications once they were implemented.  Having started work in the Business Intelligence field some years ago, one phenomenon of Business Intelligence that he was happy to discover was that a well developed BI application doesn’t have that requirement. 

“We always talk about how much easier it becomes for the user to access and work with the data in a BI environment,” he says, “but to me the big advantage and benefit with BI apps is the elimination of the technical layer that has always stood between the analyst and his data.”

Jeff spent his formative years at Motorola, where he learned project structure and process, as well as the fine art of communicating complex issues effectively between technical and user communities.  He has extensive experience in managing a wide variety of projects, including traditional software selections and implementations, and in-house application development, as well as the many data mart and data warehouse projects that he’s worked on.  He has also been called upon by firms to assist in the development of Business Intelligence Competency Centers (BICCs), which are core groups within corporations charged with building and expanding Business Intelligence reporting.

Key to making this experience count is his focus on analyzing what went right and what went wrong in each project.  “I’ve often found that I learn a lot more from the more difficult and challenging projects as compared to the easy successes.”

Jeff gained his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computer Science from Northern Illinois University, and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago.
